Chinese batteries “Made in Germany”

Chinese power battery company Guoxuan Hi-Tech recently held an off-line ceremony for its first battery at its factory in Göttingen, Germany, marking the official roll-out of the factory’s first locally produced battery product. Since then, Guoxuan Hi-Tech has achieved localized production and supply in Europe, and its batteries have officially started the process of being “Made in Germany”.

Li Zhen, chairman of Guoxuan Hi-Tech, said in his speech that he looks forward to strengthening cooperation with European companies in the future to jointly promote the vigorous development of the new energy vehicle industry, and looks forward to promoting and accelerating the global energy transformation.

Lower Saxony Governor Stefan Weil said that in the past, the engine was the most important component of a fuel vehicle, but in the future the core component of electric vehicles will be the battery. Guoxuan Hi-Tech is a company from Anhui, China, well-known in the battery field. Guoxuan Hi-Tech will produce power battery products in Göttingen that will have broad market prospects in the next few decades. “I hope this can promote the transformation of the automobile industry.”

Guoxuan High-Tech announced in 2021 that it would acquire the German Bosch Group’s factory in Göttingen and establish its first new energy production and operation base in Europe. Petra Broist, the mayor of Göttingen, said that the launch ceremony of the battery production line of Guoxuan Hi-Tech Göttingen factory can be held today in the former Bosch Group factory workshop, which is a landmark turning point. “I am very happy to see that Guoxuan Hi-Tech can cooperate with local universities to promote school-enterprise cooperative research and development and enhance the company’s research and development capabilities.”

The reporter learned at the scene that the first production line of Guoxuan Hi-Tech’s German factory was officially put into mass production on the same day. The factory has already received a large number of European orders and is expected to be able to supply European customers from October this year. By mid-2024, The actual production capacity of the factory is expected to reach 5GWh.

“The Göttingen factory production line has a high degree of automation. The current automation rate of the entire line has exceeded 70%, of which the module process stage exceeds 80%.” Chen Ruilin, vice president of Guoxuan Hi-Tech’s international business segment, told reporters. Cai Yi, president of Guoxuan High-tech Engineering Research Institute, said that the total production capacity of the Göttingen factory is planned to be 20GWh, which is expected to be completed in four phases. After all is completed, the annual output value is expected to reach 2 billion euros.

At the ceremony, Guoxuan Hi-Tech signed cooperation agreements with many international companies such as Germany’s BASF, Switzerland’s ABB Group, Dutch electric bus manufacturer Ebusco, and Spanish auto parts manufacturer Ficosa. The cooperation directions cover battery materials and product development, automotive and energy storage product supply, etc.
