Ranking of global power battery installed capacity from January to August 2023

Looking at the top 10 companies in terms of global power battery installation volume from January to August, Chinese companies still occupy six seats, namely CATL, BYD, China New Aviation, Everview Lithium Energy, Guoxuan Hi-Tech and Sunwanda, the main city The share is as high as 63.1%.

Specifically, from January to August, China’s CATL ranked first with a market share of 36.9%, and battery installed volume increased by 54.4% year-on-year to 158.3GWh; BYD’s battery installed volume increased by 87.1% year-on-year to 68.1GWh. Followed closely with a market share of 15.9%; Zhongxin’s aviation battery installed volume increased by 69% year-on-year to 20GWh, ranking sixth with a market share of 4.7%; Yiwei lithium battery installed vehicle volume increased by 142.8% year-on-year % to 9.2GWh, ranking 8th with a market share of 2.1%; Guoxuan Hi-Tech battery installation volume increased by 7.7% year-on-year to 9.1GWh, ranking 9th with a market share of 2.1%; Xinwanda Battery The installed vehicle volume increased by 30.4% year-on-year to 6.2GWh, ranking 10th with a market share of 1.4%. LG New Energy ranked 3rd, with a year-on-year increase of 58.5%, and the installed vehicle volume was 60.9GWh, with a market share of 14.2%. SK On and Samsung SDI ranked 5th and 7th respectively, with SK On increasing 16.5% year-on-year. The installed vehicle volume 21.7GWh, with a market share of 5.1%. Samsung SDI increased by 32.4% year-on-year, with an installed volume of 17.6GWh, with a market share of 4.1%.

As the only Japanese company to enter the top ten, Panasonic’s installed vehicle volume from January to August was 30.6GWh, an increase of 37.3% over the same period last year, and its market share was 7.1%.

SNE Research analyzed that the growth rate of global electric vehicle sales has slowed down recently. Car prices are cited as a major factor in the slowdown, with a market for low-cost electric vehicles emerging. In order to reduce the price of batteries, which account for the highest proportion of the cost of electric vehicles, many companies are using lithium iron phosphate batteries that are more price competitive than ternary batteries. It is understood that as the demand for lithium iron phosphate batteries for electric vehicles increases, South Korea’s three major companies that have been developing high-performance ternary batteries are also expanding to develop low-end electric vehicle batteries. As countries raise trade barriers, such as the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), it has become difficult for Chinese companies with strong lithium iron phosphate batteries to directly enter the market, and changes in market share have attracted much attention. At the same time, South Korea’s three major companies are also pursuing lithium iron phosphate battery strategies.
